Chebyshev Low-Pass Filter Calculator

Generate initial capacitor and inductor values for the two Chebyshev low-pass filter topologies shown below. Choose the filter order, cutoff frequency, passband ripple and impedance for your design.

Use the units printed beside each field. On a small screen, scroll the calculator horizontally to see all inputs and results.

n fc [MHz] Zo [ohm] ripple [dB] >

Type1 C1 [pF] L1 [nH] C2 [pF] L2 [nH] C3 [pF]
L3 [nH] C4 [pF] L4 [nH] C5 [pF]

Type2 L1 [nH] C1 [pF] L2 [nH] C2 [pF] L3 [nH]
C3 [pF] L4 [nH] C4 [pF] L5 [nH]

Inputs and units

n
Filter order; this legacy calculator supports odd orders from 1 to 9 and raises an even entry to the next odd order.
c (MHz)
Cutoff frequency in megahertz.
r (dB)
Passband ripple in decibels.
z (Ω)
Impedance in ohms.
C / L
Returned capacitor values are in pF; returned inductor values are in nH.

How to use this calculator

Select Type 1 or Type 2 using the circuit diagrams, then read the matching component row after calculation. Start with n = 3, c = 1000 MHz, r = 0.1 dB and z = 50 Ω to explore the tool.

Reading the results

Read capacitor values in picofarads (pF) and inductor values in nanohenries (nH) from the row matching your chosen topology.

Before using the result in a design

The calculated LC values are ideal starting values. Choose available parts and verify their tolerance, Q, self-resonant frequency and PCB parasitics in simulation and measurement.

Blank fields use the tool’s built-in example defaults; always enter and check your actual design values.
