Slot Line Calculator

Estimate a slot-line transmission line using the slot in the conducting surface shown below. Use this tool to explore how the substrate and slot width affect the impedance estimate.

Use the units printed beside each field. On a small screen, scroll the calculator horizontally to see all inputs and results.

Inputs and units

er
Relative permittivity of the substrate.
h (mm)
Substrate thickness.
f (MHz)
Operating frequency.
w (mm)
Slot width used by Analyze.
Zo (Ω)
Target impedance used by Synthesis.

How to use this calculator

Enter substrate permittivity, substrate thickness and frequency. Analyze calculates impedance from w; Synthesis estimates w for the requested Zo. Keep the dimensions in millimetres and frequency in megahertz.

Reading the results

Read impedance in ohms and synthesized dimensions in millimetres. Effective permittivity and velocity factor describe the propagation estimate; the quarter-wavelength output is in millimetres.

Before using the result in a design

The result is an initial transmission-line estimate. Transitions, bends, finite metal boundaries and material dispersion can affect an actual microwave circuit; verify the complete layout.

Blank fields use the tool’s built-in example defaults; always enter and check your actual design values.
