Reader technology

WS-RFIDALL-8 UHF RFID integrated reader

Advantages of multiple reading

In a cleanroom environment, personnel wear thick cleanroom suits, and the angle at which identification cards are worn varies. If only a single reader is used, missed reads can easily occur due to human shielding, signal reflection, or poor card angle.

By using three WS-RFIDALL-8 integrated readers for multi-faceted reading, the identification success rate can be significantly increased to over 97%. The system configuration includes one device on the top, one on the left, and one on the right, forming a complete three-dimensional reading network to ensure that personnel are accurately identified regardless of their posture when passing through.

Smart direction detection

The system can automatically determine whether personnel are entering or leaving the cleanroom by analyzing the reading sequence and signal strength changes. When personnel pass through, the system records the trigger timing and signal strength of the three WS-RFIDALL-8 integrated readers.

By analyzing the sequence and changes in the signal strength curve of this data, the system can accurately determine the direction of passage, effectively avoiding misjudgment or duplicate records, and ensuring the completeness and accuracy of entry and exit records, providing reliable data for management.

Architecture

Three integrated readers working together

The entrance/exit is configured with three integrated RFID readers, positioned at the top, left, and right. This triangular configuration creates a complete reading coverage area, overcoming the human body shielding effect and ensuring that regardless of a person's posture or walking speed, they can be accurately read by at least one device.

Reading coverage of the top, left and right integrated readers at an entrance
  • Top reader

Covers the head and shoulder area, capturing signals from a top-down tag angle

  • Left reader

Senses the left chest and arm position, supplementing side reading blind spots

  • Right reader

Corresponds to the right body area, forming a complete three-dimensional reading network

Comparison

Key advantages of multi-angle reading

Limits of a single device

  • Tags easily obscured when personnel wear thick cleanroom suits
  • Single reading angle easily creates blind spots
  • Signal reflection and clothing interference affect accuracy
  • Actual reading success rate is only about 60%
  • Unable to cope with differences in wearing habits among personnel

Three readers working together

  • Simultaneous sensing from multiple directions: top, left, and right
  • Automatically compensates for blind spots caused by obstruction and angles
  • Cross-validation enhances data reliability
  • Reading success rate can be increased to over 97%
  • Adapts to various body types and wearing style variations
Direction detection

Intelligent entry/exit direction mechanism

  1. 01

    Trigger sequence analysis

Records the reading order of the three devices

  2. 02

    Signal strength tracking

Monitors the dynamic change curve of RSSI values

  3. 03

    Automatic direction decision

The system determines entry or exit

  4. 04

    Complete record storage

Avoids duplicate records and misjudgments, ensuring data integrity

Management benefits

Through precise algorithm analysis of data from three readers, the system can accurately determine personnel movement direction. When personnel enter the cleanroom from the outside, the reading sequence is typically triggered by the outer device first, followed by the top device, and finally the inner device; the reverse sequence applies for exiting.

Combined with the trend of signal strength changes, the system can exclude abnormal behaviors such as loitering or turning back, ensuring that each entry/exit record corresponds to an actual passage event. This intelligent determination mechanism significantly improves management efficiency, avoids human error, and allows managers to instantly grasp personnel dynamics within the cleanroom, meeting strict audit and traceability requirements.

FAQ

Answers to your questions

  • Why is the same tag sometimes readable and sometimes not?

Because UHF eTags are sensitive to direction and environment, the human body (water), metal, and personnel movements (walking, turning, bending) can affect radio wave propagation. This is a normal physical characteristic.

  • Can only one reader be installed?

A single device has insufficient reading success rate in cleanroom applications; multiple devices are required for cross-coverage to ensure stability.

  • Why are 2-3 integrated readers installed at the entrance?

Multiple integrated reader devices can form cross-reading, reducing missed reads caused by human body obstruction and directional changes, significantly improving overall success rate.

  • Is the cleanroom class related to the eTag label?

UHF RFID is a wireless technology, and in practice, 100% cannot be guaranteed. However, through the number of devices, configuration, and system design, stable performance above 97% can be achieved.

  • Will eTags sewn in different positions on cleanroom garments affect reading?

Yes, the tag position will affect the relative angle to the antenna and the degree of human body obstruction. Recommendations and tests are required based on actual wearing methods.

  • Will eTag tags fail after repeated washing and disinfection of cleanroom garments?

Cleanroom-specific eTags are designed to be washable and can withstand multiple washes and disinfections. The actual lifespan still needs to be evaluated based on washing cycles and temperature conditions.

  • If multiple people pass through the entrance simultaneously, will they interfere with each other?

The system has anti-collision reading mechanisms, and with appropriate equipment configuration, it can effectively handle situations where multiple people pass through simultaneously.

  • Will the equipment mistakenly read people in the adjacent aisle or those not passing through?

There is a possibility, but by adjusting antenna angles, power settings, and reading zone planning, the reading range can be limited to the specified channel.

  • How does the system handle missed reads?

The system can avoid misjudgments caused by a single missed read through re-reading mechanisms, passage logic, and event record design.

  • Can a 100% reading rate be guaranteed?

UHF RFID is a wireless technology, and in practice, 100% cannot be guaranteed. However, through the number of devices, configuration, and system design, stable performance above 97% can be achieved.
